Who We Are
A legacy of care. A future of hope.
For over 50 years, The Virtue Center has walked alongside individuals and families facing addiction, mental health challenges, and trauma, offering real help, real healing, and a community that cares.
Based in Norman, Oklahoma, we help people rebuild their lives with care that treats them as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. Recovery starts with trust, and we’re here to earn it, every step of the way.
Our Story
A Mission Born From Experience
Over 50 years ago, Richard Virtue founded The Virtue Center after experiencing addiction and recovery firsthand. What began as a small effort to help people in crisis grew into the Norman Alcohol Information Center (NAIC) and eventually The Virtue Center.
Growing to Meet Oklahoma's Needs
Over the decades, we expanded our services to meet the growing need for addiction and mental health care while staying committed to removing barriers to treatment.
Building the Future of Recovery
In 2020, our community came together to build a trauma-informed safe space for our clients. Proceeds that have been lasting investment in recovery, hope, and the people we serve.
We believe substance use and gambling problems are real, serious illnesses, not a matter of willpower, and that without treatment, they can be life-threatening.
We also believe that when someone is dealing with both addiction and a mental health issue at the same time, the best results come from treating the whole person, not just one problem at a time. Addiction and mental health struggles don’t just affect the individual, they affect the whole family too, which is why we welcome family involvement in the recovery process.
Recovery works best when we care for a person’s body, mind, spirit, and emotions, together with the people who support them, and the earlier we can step in, the more we can reduce the toll addiction takes on families and our community.

Join Our Mission, Join Our Team
At The Virtue Center, we are more than a workplace, we’re a community of compassionate professionals and volunteers dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome addiction and mental health challenges.
Whether you’re a student seeking supervised clinical experience, a licensed professional exploring future opportunities, or someone called to mission-driven, trauma-informed care, there may be a place for you here.
We offer internship placements for pre-licensed counselors and mental health professionals. Interns complete required hours under the supervision of our licensed clinicians and gain hands-on experience in a supportive, recovery-focused environment. Many interns go on to join our team.
While we don’t currently have open employment positions, we encourage those interested in future opportunities to connect with us or check back for updates.
